A beautiful old heritage building dating back to 1677, lovingly restored and turned into a trendy restaurant and beer hall. De Oude is one of my new favourite spots for a nice dinner out, breakfast with a view or for sundowners with a few close friends.
They have four separate sections at De Oude, depending on what you’re in the mood for.
The Manor
The first is the lovely restaurant in the Manor. With wooden floors, high ceilings, a fireplace and modern but homely touches. There’s also a beautiful bar inside the restaurant where you can grab a craft beer or a flavoursome cocktail. They have a variety of delicious options on the menu, a few of which are wood-fired. Their breakfasts are also incredible and I’m pretty obsessed with their housemade granola, served with greek yoghurt, berry compote and honeycomb. They have an outdoor section as well where you can sit and overlook the venues natural surroundings and the play area for little ones.
The Café
Right next to the restaurant is a small little cafe where you can grab a good cup of coffee and some rusks. They have wifi on the property so I’ll definitely be back here to work during the week.
The Taproom
Then there’s the Taproom. A beautiful rustic farm hall with a large family style table as well as smaller tables and couches and a bar. They have ten rotating craft beers on tap and of course, plenty of options for the non-beer-lovers. They have a beer based pub menu where you can order pizzas and burgers as well as some snacks, like their beer cheese braai broodjies. They also hire out this venue for functions – perfect spot for a birthday.
The Bistro
Then there’s the Bistro, the smaller pizzeria restaurant at the end that’s super cosy and amazing for a date night. You can order a variety of pizzas and pasta dishes here. The pizzas are super thin based and some of the best I’ve tasted.
The prices are pretty reasonable and it’s the perfect place for a romantic night out, drinks and pizzas with friends, or even for a quick cup of good coffee. Make sure to catch some of their weekly specials.
I love that the Northern Suburbs is slowly getting more trendy foodie and drink spot gems.
